In Memory Of
Hans “The Carver” Mann
1980 – 2026
Craftsman. Innovator. Angler. Friend.
Hans Mann was one of those rare individuals whose influence reached far beyond the lures he created or the fish he caught.
Known throughout the musky community as Hans the Carver, he was an extraordinary craftsman, accomplished angler, and co-founder of Red October Baits. His innovative lure designs and remarkably lifelike fish carvings reflected a deep understanding of the species he loved.
Those who knew Hans remember something even greater than his talent: his generosity, his willingness to share what he knew, and the friendships he built along the way.
Hans believed in the kind of community that makes musky fishing special, where knowledge is shared, craftsmanship is respected, and the people matter as much as the fish.
In recognition of his craftsmanship, innovation, and lasting contribution to the musky community, the New York Musky Expo is proud to dedicate its Best in Show award to his memory.
